Full time, permanent post, based in Edinburgh
Starting salary: £45,268 to £50,485 plus civil service pension, generous holiday entitlement, and other benefits
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh explores, conserves, and explains the world of plants for a better future.
We are a world leading botanical institute and international visitor attraction taking positive action for plants and people; from local communities across Scotland, to more than 40 countries around the world. Our priority is to tackle the biodiversity crisis and the climate emergency and support the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. Our work builds on our more than 350-year history as a scientific botanic garden, a centre of biodiversity education and training, the internationally important botanical collections in our care, and our extensive international partnerships.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Educationalist to join our team and lead the development and growth of our undergraduate programme of world-leading horticulture and plant biodiversity-related courses. As well as co-ordinating and teaching on the courses, you’ll be managing a team of lecturers, managing the day-to-day relationships with our academic partners, and constantly looking to further enhance the experience of our students.
On top of being an experienced teacher with a good knowledge of botany and horticulture, applicants will need to have previous management experience and an understanding of the HE sector. This is a key role within a fast-paced environment, and you’ll need to be a strong communicator, able to think on your feet, and play a positive leadership role in an experienced dynamic team.
Although we see this as a full-time role, applications will also be considered from exceptional candidates looking to work on a part-time basis.
To apply please email recruitment@rbge.org.uk with:
- your CV
- a covering letter outlining the skills, knowledge and experience you’d bring to the post
- a completed equal opportunities questionnaire: EOQ form
Closing date: Midday (GMT) Wednesday, 5 June 2024

Fixed-term until June 2027, part-time 29.6 hours per week post, based in Edinburgh with option of hybrid working (with at least 2 days on site)
Starting salary FTE £30,779 (£24,623), plus generous holiday allowance, Civil Service Pension and other benefits
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is one of the world’s leading botanic gardens and a global centre for biodiversity science, horticulture and education. Our vision is of a positive future for plants, people and the planet. Our team works to raise the funds and public awareness to make this vision a reality, and we are looking for a motivated individual to join us. We are in the midst of our hugely exciting Edinburgh Biomes project, a seven-year initiative to restore our heritage Palm Houses, build new research facilities, and protect the Garden’s unique and globally important plant collection for the future.
As part of this we are looking to expand our dynamic Individual Giving team. You will work closely with the Head of Individual Giving to develop multi-channel public appeals, utilising print, digital and on-site opportunities. You’ll play a key role in writing our stewardship communications, growing a pipeline to further engage donors and members, leading to increased income.
Applicants will ideally have previous experience in managing digital campaigns, and the ability to write creative and compelling cases for support. You will need to have excellent relationship building skills, as the role requires collaboration with other teams across the Garden.
